According to Chinese medicine the liver is the powerhouse for your hormones. If the liver energy is compromised, your hormones will react accordingly. If your liver is sluggish, for example, your hormones won’t break things down appropriately. If you have a fatty liver, your insulin levels might get out of control. And a deficient liver energy can leave your hormone levels diminishing and disappearing, triggering infertility, irregular periods, and more. They are super nutritious, and according to Traditional Chinese Medicine they nourish blood, tonify the heart, calm the nervous system, and lubricate the intestines. The main chemical constituent of beets is betaine, which protect cells, proteins, and enzymes from environmental stress.

This orange flower is well known for it’s healing benefits. It’s anti-inflammatory, an antitumor agent, and a powerful wound healer. It is a potent medicinal particularly for skin ailments and rashes, including eczema, acne, ulcers, varicose veins, diaper rash and itchy inflamed skin. You can buy Calendula cream in any drugstore, but it’s so much fun to make your own. And the benefit of that is that you don’t use any hazardous ingredients, it’s all natural.

The health benefits of a simple cup of lemon water in the morning

IMG_0835Our guests at Äppelgården Bed&Breakfast already know this, as we offer warm lemon water on our breakfast menu. The health benefits of warm lemon water in the morning are huge! Water keeps the body hydrated and aids the removal of toxins. And lemon contains numerous essential nutrients, like calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamin A, C and B-complex, pectin fiber, carbohydrates (source of energy) and proteins. It also has citric acid and powerful antibacterial, antiviral and immune-boosting properties.

And it’s so easy!
Cut a lemon in halves (use one half or both), and squeeze its juice in a glass of lukewarm water. If you like you can add some raw honey for a sweeter taste. Continue reading
